Sensational September

September has always been one of our favourite times of the year. There is  something special about the crackle of fall in the air, the glorious changing colour of the leaves, and while the days are still warm, the evenings are pleasantly cooler. Apple season is in full gear locally, and we encourage you to spend some quality family time on a beautiful September day visiting one of our many wonderful apple orchards and pick yourself some of nature’s finest offerings. You’ll be glad you did! The Canadian Fruits and Vegetables for the month of September are: apples, grapes, pears, eggplant, green peppers and tomatoes.
September of course is most famous for the start of something fresh and new each year: the academic school year. Whether your children are heading off to pre-school or university, it’s the time of year for pencils and backpacks, binders and calculators, and of course, a whole new wardrobe! Because it can be such an expensive month for families, in this month’s newsletter, We’ve included a list of fun things to do instead of spending money.

In real estate, September traditionally  heralds the return to a more active market. Once the kids are settled back into the school routine, families that are planning a move
tend to put their plans in motion.  It’s a shorter season than the spring market, but often more lucrative to purchase and sell in, so if you know of someone thinking of making a move this fall or into early 2019, please pass along our name and number so that a confidential appointment can be arranged. This market requires finesse and a systematized plan of action, whether buying or selling. Let our experience prove to you why we remain in the top 1% of real estate teams in the entire Toronto Board! Our Business is Your Business, and We Thank You Sincerely for It!

Fall-Proof Your Health

Fall means delicious pumpkin lattes, colourful leaves and cooler breezes. But as the temperature dips, it also means dryer skin, kids passing germs at school and the start of the dreaded cold and flu season. Follow these tips and transition into the colder months with glowing skin and a stronger immune system!
1.  COMBAT THE COMMON COLD: Eating a well- balanced diet rich in fruits and vegetables is already a good way to boost your immune system. But to ensure your body is getting all the nutrients its needs, consider taking a daily multivitamin.  Already been struck by a rotten cold? Try taking zinc lozenges or high doses of vitamin C (2 grams daily) which can reduce the duration of symptoms.
2.  BUILD HEALTHY BONES: To avoid joint diseases later in life, such as arthritis or osteoporosis, be sure to boost your calcium intake. Not only is it vital for bones and teeth, but it’s also important for proper muscle function and nerve transition.
Most people should get at least 1000mg daily, but doses above 650mg  should be split between two different meals throughout the day. And  don’t forget the vitamin D. Where there’s calcium, there must be vitamin D.  Vitamin D3 helps the body use calcium. It’s recommended that most people  get at least 600IU daily.
3.  FIGHT THE FLU: If you’re against taking the flu shot, try Elderberry!   Elderberry has been hailed as a completely safe, natural, effective  alternative remedy. Effective within 48 hours of initial symptoms, it’s  normally taken in liquid form directly from the spoon or mixed into a tea or  sparkling water.
4.  DEAL WITH DRY SKIN: Consider using soap-free cleansers to help  maintain optimal skin pH and don’t forget to moisturize after bathing or hand  washing. Creams are more effective than lotions and you can even put your  moisturizer in the fridge to help relieve  itchy skin more effectively.

Why I Support, Make A Wish ®
make-a-wish-Logo.gif

I grew up right here in Oshawa. Born in Oshawa General Hospital. I remember when I first heard about a young person close to our family suffering from a nasty disease that was granted A Wish from Children's Wish Foundation .  This was the turning point in this persons recovery. It was then that I began to pay closer attention to the work they do.  Since then, I have learned that it is a collection of hard working professionals all coming together for a common cause.  That cause is to help young people over come unfortunate health issues that life sometimes throws our way.  I take pride in supporting in a way that I can, the good work these people do at Make A Wish .  My team rally’s around our annual goal of raising money and donating portions of our income to help Make A Wish in their quest to heal young people when they need healing.  My team and I are committed to providing outstanding results for buyers and sellers referred to us by our past clients.   I have discovered that Make A Wish shares similar commitments to their patients.  And since their services survive on sponsorships and donations we are happy to contribute and proud to support them.

 Sincerely,

Sunny’s wish empowered him to take his future into his own hands

In 1996, Sunny was a typical teenager, attending high school and playing sports, when his carefree life was turned upside down. Twenty years later, in his own words, he shares the impact his wish had during the most difficult time of his life.

“That spring, I started noticing pain in my legs and ribs that would come and go. By fall, the pain and discomfort spread to my head and lymph nodes. One day, during my first week of Grade 11, I nearly fainted in class and my parents took me to our doctor for some tests. We were later rushed to SickKids hospital where I was diagnosed with stage four non-Hodgkin lymphoma.

It was difficult to find optimism when I felt so little hope for the future. Thankfully, during this challenging time, I met with wish-granting volunteers from Make-A-Wish®. Talking with my wish granters was uplifting, and made me start to think about the possibilities beyond my hospital bed. Over the next few weeks, my health slowly improved and I started to think more about my wish.

I finally decided that I wanted a better computer. My old PC was too slow to run Windows 95 and I couldn’t connect fast enough to the “World Wide Web”, as we called it back then. I also thought this new technology would keep me occupied while I was stuck at home for at least another year going through treatment and recovering.

I was ecstatic the day my computer arrived. My wish had been something positive to look forward to. Not only was my wish granted, but Make-A-Wish delivered the best computer I could have hoped for. It was a brand new IBM computer with all of the latest gadgets and software, including a fast Internet modem. The free time I had at home allowed me to learn more about the Internet, web design and computer programming. I was also able to communicate with family and friends when I couldn’t leave the house while I was sick. My parents were thrilled that my wish had been granted and I had something to occupy my mind during this challenging time. When I finally returned to high school, I excelled in my computer science class and I helped design the school website. My computer later served me well in my university education where I received an honours degree in computer sciences.

It’s been more than 10 years since I started working professionally as an IT developer. I have enjoyed every step of my journey and my wish was my launching pad. It wasn’t until recently that I really started to reflect on my life and some of the difficult times I faced. We all have dark moments in our lives, but those experiences have the potential to change us for the better – to make us courageous, strong and resilient.”
