Why I Support, Make A Wish ®

I grew up right here in Oshawa.  Born in Oshawa General Hospital.  I remember when I first heard about a young person close to our family suffering from a nasty disease that was granted A Wish from Children's Wish Foundation .  This was the turning point in this persons recovery. Garcia's Pirate Adventure

Swimming, playgrounds and visiting the beach are just some of the things Garcia missed out on while battling aplastic anemia. At just five years old, this young boy is grateful for every memory he shares with his family and friends.

For his one true wish, granted by Make-A-Wish® Southwestern Ontario, Garcia wished to go on a pirate adventure with his family. He was looking forward to water slides, swimming and spending time with his loved ones. “Being with family makes everything fun,” he says.

And what a fun time it was, indeed! Garcia and his family flew to Turks and Caicos and stayed at Pirate Island Water Park. The family said their biggest decision they had to make each day while on their trip was, “Should we stay at the beach or the pool?”

Even the plane ride down to Turks and Caicos was a great adventure for Garcia and his family. The team at WestJet made the brave young boy feel extra special by making an announcement about him on the plane, and they even provided him with his favorite treats for along the way.

Of their experience, Garcia’s parents tell us, “It was a great way to celebrate the miracle of Garcia’s new life and spend some magical worry free days together.”

Garcia’s wish was the 1,200th wish granted at Make-A-Wish Southwestern Ontario since the chapter’s inception in 1986! A heartfelt thanks to the Make-A-Wish® Canada Board of Directors for their generous support in helping make Garcia’s wish become a reality!
